If you signed up earlier, refer to the existing ITAM documentation.Part models serve as the templates for individual parts in your inventory. By using the bulk import tool, you can define specifications for various hardware components, such as wattage, capacity, and manufacturer, without manual entry. The system uses a required Type field to categorize these models and apply relevant parameters.
This article provides instructions on how to bulk import part models into Freshservice using spreadsheets. This process is ideal for migrating data from legacy systems or performing large scale updates to your part inventory.
Prerequisites
You need the following before cloning devices:
Access to the IT Asset Management module in your Freshservice instance.
Administrator privileges or specific permissions to import part model records.
Download the import template
To ensure your data maps correctly to the system fields, download a sample spreadsheet. To download the template, follow these steps:
Go to IT Asset Management > Inventory > Part Models.
On the Part Models page, click the More Options (three vertical dots) icon and select Import.
In the Import Parts Models window, click Download under the Sample file step to save the import template to your system.
Populate and import the spreadsheet
Open the downloaded template and add your hardware data to the spreadsheet. To do so, follow these steps:
Enter the hardware details in the appropriate columns.
Note: The Type field must be populated for every row.
Delete any unused parameter columns or leave them blank.
Save the file in .xls or .xlsx format.
Go to the Import Parts Models window, click Attach file under the Upload your CSV step, select your populated spreadsheet, and click Import.
Verify imported part models
After the process completes, the system displays an import status message. If errors occur, the results specify which rows were not added and the reason for the failure, such as missing required parameters.
To validate the successful imports, follow these steps:
Go to the IT Asset Management > Inventory > Part Models page.
Review the list to ensure all models, such as HDDs and RAM modules, appear correctly.
Open individual records to verify that specific parameters were mapped accurately.
Note: You can use this same process to update existing part models. If the model name matches an existing record in the system, the import tool updates the parameters of that record rather than creating a duplicate.
