A blade chassis is a specialized device type that houses multiple blade servers, providing shared power and cooling. In Freshservice, managing these devices involves defining the physical slot architecture of the chassis and associating individual blade devices with those slots. This hierarchical relationship allows for precise inventory tracking and visual representations of your physical data center equipment.

This article provides an overview of managing blade chassis devices and their nested blades. It includes instructions on filtering for chassis devices, adding new blades to specific slots, and using the interactive layout editor to visualize hardware configurations.

Prerequisites

You need the following before managing blade chassis:

• Access to the IT Asset Management module in your Freshservice instance.

• Administrator privileges to edit device records.

• Existing hardware models defined for both the chassis and the blades.

View blade chassis devices

To locate your blade chassis devices, follow these steps:

1. Go to IT Asset Management > Inventory from the left navigation pane.

2. Click the Filter icon to open the filter pane.

3. In the Basic filter tab, search for Blade Chassis and select the checkbox to add it to your active filters.

4. In the Blade Chassis dropdown menu, select Yes, and click Apply.

5. (Optional) To view the blades within a specific chassis, click the chassis name and go to the Blades section in the Information tab. The section lists all associated blades sorted by slot number, including their serial numbers, asset numbers, and hardware models.

Add a new blade

To add a blade to an existing chassis, follow these steps:

1. Go to the specific blade chassis record and click Edit in the upper-right corner.

2. In the Information tab, locate the Blades section.

3. Enter the device name, provide any additional required information, and select the appropriate hardware model.

4. Click Update to save your changes.
