Before you start scanning your network for assets, download and install the Freshservice Probe application on one of the systems in your network. The Probe application needs a Windows system to work. Ensure you go through the minimum requirements and identify the right computer to run the Probe. If you have multiple networks in your organization, you might have to run separate probes to manage each. Once installed, the Discovery Probe will auto-update itself.

System requirements

  • Operating System: Windows 7, Windows 10, Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1, Windows Server 2008 SP2, Windows Server 2012, and Windows Server 2016
  • RAM: 1GB of RAM or more
  • Storage: 100MB of free space in your hard drive
  • An active computer that is turned on to perform scheduled scans and updates
  • Microsoft .NET 4.6

Downloading the Probe

  1. Go to Admin > Global Settings > Asset Management > Discovery Hub.
  2. Click Configure Agent and Probe in the Basic discovery section. Then, click the Probe tab.
  3. Click Download Probe and copy the the registration token, which will be used in the installation process.
    

Note: This is applicable starting with the Discovery Probe version 6.0.0.





Installing the Probe

Once your download is complete, click the setup file to start the installation wizard. Follow the on-screen instructions to install the application in your local system directly. When prompted, paste the copied registration token in the installation screen.

 
Once the installation is complete, you will be able to see the 'Probe' icon in your system tray. You will now be able to run the Probe whenever you want and configure its settings.



Updating the Probe 

When an update is rolled out for the Probe version, get the latest app version under Admin > Global Settings > Asset Management > Discovery Hub > Configure Agent and Probe > Probe tab. Download the installer from Freshservice and install it to upgrade to the latest Probe version. You should install the latest version to keep your Probe secure and access better functionality. If the latest version cannot be updated due to internal security software restrictions, uninstall the Probe and reinstall it with the most recent version available for download from the portal.
