In Freshservice, you can consolidate individual software titles into a single management unit by merging them or assigning them to a suite. This process is essential for simplifying your inventory and ensuring that licensing for a suite (such as Microsoft Office) accurately reflects all its constituent applications.

This article explains how to assign components to a suite, view suite members, and handle naming constraints during the merge process.

Assign components to a suite

You can combine multiple discovered software components into a suite to manage them under a centralized license model. To assign components, follow these steps:

  1. Go to IT Asset Management > Software > Software Models.

  2. Select the check boxes for the software components you want to merge and click Assign Software to Suite.

  3. In the Assign Software to Suite dialog box, select an existing software component to serve as the suite header.

  4. Click Assign to finalize the assignment.

View assigned components in a suite

Once components are grouped, you can verify the suite's members from the main inventory list.

  1. Go to the Software Models list page.

  2. Click the name of the suite you wish to inspect.

  3. Go to the Software Components in this Suite section to see all assigned applications.

Merge software components with the same name

If you need to merge software components that share the same name into a suite, you must first merge the individual components together before adding them to the suite.

Naming constraints

A new component suite must have a unique Name + Vendor combination. You cannot create a suite that shares the exact name and vendor details as an existing software component.

Example Scenario: Consider the following inventory items:

  1. Software component ABC, vendor Cisco.

  2. Software component ABC, vendor MS.

  3. Software component ABC-Suite, vendor None.

  • Supported: You can merge either item 1 or item 2 into item 3 individually.

  • Validation Error: Merging both 1 and 2 into 3 at the same time will produce a validation error. In that case, merge 1 and 2 together first, then merge the result into 3.
