Intro: Asset fields are specific to each type and appear conditionally in analytics when certain filters are applied. Below are a few examples to help clarify this concept:

Usecase 1. Identify hardware assets without serial no

1.  Navigate to Admin → Reporting → Analytics to create the custom report.

2. Click on the New Report in the top right corner

3. Drag and drop the widget to create the report.

4. Select the asset metric from the drop-down field.

5. Click on the filter icon and use the below conditions to report on the hardware assets without serial no.

Filter conditions notes:

  • CI type is Hardware - Ensures that all hardware specific attributes such as serial number are available for use in the report in the tabular view, filters and grouping.

  • Asset Family list includes Hardware - Gives you the list of assets that are of type Hardware along with its associated child types like Computer, Laptop, etc.

  • Match Any between 2 filter groups - The first group ensures Hardware attributes are available within the report and the 2nd filter group brings up all assets under hardware that have blank serial numbers.

Conditonal Nature of Asset Type fields: Please ensure to specify the following condition to filter custom fields based on a particular asset type: "CI type is <Asset type>". For example, to filter custom fields for laptop assets, specify the condition "CI type is Laptop" to access the specific fields associated with laptops.

5. Finally, group the assets based on the Serial no

Usecase 2. List out all assets under hardware by asset type along with serial number

  1. Using Assets are your metric set up the advanced filters as shown in the screenshot below:

  1. Now group by CI type

  2. Access Hardware specific attributes such as serial number in the Underlying data

Usecase 3. Configure Data Exports to export multiple asset types along with their type specific fields.

  1. Set up a Data Export on Assets with the following filters. In the example below we’re trying to export all assets below Hardware and Cloud types but also extract specific attributes such as OS name, IMEI number, Serial Number and Instance ID

  2. Choose the type specific fields required for the export

Notice how the asset types along with their type specific fields are available once you’ve set up and applied the filters in step 1.
