Relationships types are used to define the way assets and other entities are linked to each other in your organization. For example, a relationship type called “Runs on” can help you understand that a service or an application is running on a specific server. Similarly the relationship “Contains” can be used to describe the different components that are contained in a technical or business service.

You can use the default relationships types in Freshservice or create a relationship type that best describes the kind of relationship you wish to maintain in Freshservice. Relationships can be created between Assets, Requesters/Agents, Departments and Locations.

You can also choose to add a custom relationship type to Freshservice by giving it a name and an equivalent inverse relationship.

  • Login to Freshservice as an administrator.
  • Go to Admin > Asset Management > Relationship Types. If your account has more than one workspace, navigate to Admin > Global Settings > Asset Management > Relationship Types.
  • You will be able to see the list of default relationships.
  • Click New Relationship Type.
  • Enter downstream and upstream relationship type names.
  • Add a meaningful description to it if necessary.
  • Click on Save to finish adding your new relationship.
